The Foundation’s purpose is to raise college scholarship funds to further the education of student athletes who graduate from Portland High School in memory of Andrew G. Lano.
The Lano Family Foundation (LFF), established in 2012, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization registered in the state of Maine. All funding raised is distributed locally.
Beginning in 2013, the LFF awarded the “Handy Andy” Lano Scholarship grant of $8,000 in 2013, $10,000 in 2014, $8,000 in 2015, $10,000 in 2016, and $10,000 in 2017 to a Portland High School (PHS) senior student- athlete who best emulates Andrew G. Lano, one of PHS’s greatest 3-sport athletes. Funds are to be directly applied towards post secondary education.
Funds are raised annually at the “Action Andy” Golf Classic and a PGA Tour Caddie Day; which together profited $11,000 in 2013, $22,000 in 2014,$17,000 in 2015, $21,000 in 2016, $17,000 in 2017 and $19,000 in 2018.
The LFF also distributes funds annually to the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine to assist with Glaucoma research, as well as partnering with the Maine State Golf Association to award a scholarship for secondary education in the memory of Andrew G. Lano. Additionally, the LFF supports the Portland Boys & Girls youth basketball program.
The Lano Family Foundation is overwhelmed and greatly appreciates all the generous support received to date. Our family thanks all of the donors and sponsors from the bottom of our hearts as we continue to honor the memory of Andrew G. Lano by “investing in the future of student-athletes”.
